High School Redux *

It's a fact that even the most popular kids

do not want to

re-visit high school.
(okay, I made that up)

Maybe a few fun days, or some great make- out sessions.

By and large, it's the

time to forget.

But what if something happened, like you put

your undies on backward on the anniversary of your first day in 10th grade.

 Poof! There you were,

the grown up person you are now, but looking like you did in 10th grade.

Who Would You Be?

For me, there aren't a lot of options.

At least not at my high school, the generation I was there.

For guys:

Dork, Jock, Hood.

For Girls:

Cheerleader, Ditz, Brain,Slut.

Like I said, not much to choose from.

Are you looking for yourself?

But you're not there?

No problem.

You were obviously in

The Oatmeal Crowd

Huh?

The Oatmeal Crowd.

Bland, beige, faceless, lacking in color and noticeable personality.

 Invisible.

Sort of like oatmeal, slow cooking all its goodness

until just the right done-ness is achieved.

That's the crowd I belonged to.

GIVEN THE CHANCE,

I would go back as the cheerleader.

Much more confident and assured,

but most of all, ready to cheer on those

who needed encouragement and affirmation.

Ready to tell them,

"You can do it!  You're better than you think!

Things are going to work out.  Trust me!"

That doesn't sound like oatmeal talking, does it?

And it's not.

That tenth grade blob of oatmeal has now become

One Hot Cookie!

Who would you be if you went back to high school?

Au Revoir,

Mary

  1. Oh Mary, I must confess I was the Cheerleader and the Homecoming Princess - but I have to say, I wasn't rude or arrogant....on the contrary, I was always kind to everybody.

Now, I am still the confident one, but I am much more of a private person than I was. And I do need my "alone time" to ponder on the things of the world.

Your oatmeal days are over, Mary, and you have come a long way, my dear.
